Dr. Nancy Yen Shipley, also known as NancyMD, is an orthopaedic surgeon, speaker, podcast host, writer and mom. Dr. Yen Shipley is passionate about sharing her path to finding her inner renaissance woman with others, in particular the next generation of future women leaders. She is producer and host of podcast The 6% with NancyMD, and on the podcast, shares the inspiring stories of women thriving in traditionally male-dominated fields.
As a mentor and champion for equity and diversity, she co-founded the SpeakUpOrtho platform. Nancy brings awareness to DEI in the medical field and beyond through professional speaking engagements and an active online presence, with a following of over 30k on social media platforms. She has been a featured contributor on KevinMD.com, Women’s Health Conversations, among multiple other online and traditional media outlets.

Dr. Yen Shipley is an unabashed late-bloomer. She graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Psychology. She took a non-traditional path to medicine, first working in the snowboarding industry and event planning, before finding her passion in medicine. In medical school, despite being told “girls don’t do ortho”, entered internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery followed by a sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship. She is now in private practice in Portland, Oregon and enjoys caring for athletes of all levels, and is a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team.
In her free time, Dr. Yen Shipley enjoys spending time with her son and husband, snowboarding, stand up paddleboarding, playing tennis, and enjoying the great outdoors and the great food in her adopted hometown of Portland.
